Teachers are the essential element of any educational system. Being clear that technology is an essential part of our world and our culture, how can teachers be prepared and prepare themselves to an intelligent use of the technological tools? Two main areas emerge:

  • The preparation of future teachers (preservice):
How can technology be integrated in the existing programs that prepare teachers of mathematics so that it is possible to prepare them to the integration of technology in their future practice? Should new courses be designed? Should demonology be integrated in existing courses?
  • The continuos preparation of teachers (inservice):
Technology is not going to stop its development. As many authors point out, technology promises a lot but education progresses very slowly. Which are the perspectives opened with the developing technology at all levels (elementary, secondary and higher education)? How to make the right choices? Should educators influence the developments of technology?
Plenary session: Branca Silveira A plenary address will be given by Branca Silveira, president of the Portuguese Association of Teachers of Mathematics APM, member of the Nonio Seculo XXI project at the Catholic University of Porto, and member of the group T3 Portugal:
