XDim 2.6
XDim - 3D Visualization of DataXDim was designed to address the area between data and image processing, where there is more data available than typ. used in spread sheets, butless than is typ. used in n image processing (p.ex 200x200). It was developedto have a postprocessor for quasi optical data provided by a magnetic fieldsensor and a Finite Element Program. This mixture of image processing(FFT, Histogram equalization ...) and data processing (add, multiply, spline...)allows new ways to visualize large data fields. For example you can importan image (gif/jpeg) and get a 3D representation or import large data setsand use image processing tools like edge detection with a matrix filter.Fields where XDim is used:--------------------------Data Processing => Nondestructive Evaluation, Geophysi csImage Processing (3D) => Education (basics of Image Processing), BiophysicsHighlights:- easy to use motif interface- view data in several viewports- color representation independent of the hardware capabilities- import and export gif"s and jpegs- import/export from/to table calculation programs- allows the use of complex data sets

Hard- and software needed to run the program:
Computer type and processor:
DEC Alpha or HP PA-Risc 9000-712
Graphic device:
8 bit graphics (typ.)
RAM:
As much as possible (min 32 MB, better >= 64 MB)
Harddisk space:
< 10 MB
Other harware needed:
Operating system and shell:
UNIX
Other software needed:
X11 (>R4), Motif(>=1.1), an ANSI C-compiler, tar, compress
Remarks:
I know that XDim runs on many systems like DEC"s, HP"s, SUN"s, SGI"sthat conform to the upper conditions. BUT in the remarks to EASAis stated, that a program is removed if it doesn"t run at test time
e.So I will also provide two already compiled versions. Please allowme some remarks:1. The standard under UNIX is to provide source code, smaller Institutions don"t have enough hardware to test it o
n all possible combinations.2. I"m proud that XDim compiles and runs on many different systems and hardware combinations (this was one of the primary devolpment goals).3. I know that installation un
der UNIX can be tricky sometimes, so I provide two different versions of XDim. They are in the precomp subdirectory only use them, if can"t compile XDim for some reason. ./xdim2.6/precomp/DEC
Version (output from uname -a): Provider: DEC Processor Type: alpha Operating System: OSF1 3.0 ./xdim2.6/precomp/HP Version (output from uname -a): Provider:
HP Processor Type: 9000-712 Operating System: HP-UX A.09.05 EAt least for the HP, I know older versions of the OS won"t do.Apart from the screen dump, the description file and the manualth
e files are tar"ed and compress"ed as is standard under UNIX.Please send any questions concerning the installation tobenzing@iegi01.etec.uni-karlsruhe.de
