METU Object-Oriented database management systemsupports "advanced application areas" that are notwell-served by relational database management systems.Advanced pplications require explicit storage an ndmanipulation of more abstract types(e.g., images,design documents) and the ability for the users todefine their own application specific types.Furthermore, METU Object-Oriented database management system supports complex object structures with nestedobjects and also includes behavioural knowledgethrough methods.MOOD (METU Object-Oriented DBMS) is developed on theExodus Storage Manager (ESM), an d supports a SQL-likeobject-oriented query language (MOODSQL) and agraphical user interface, called MoodView, developedusing Motif. The system is coded in C++ on Sun Sparc4workstations and has a type system derived from C++,eliminating the impedance mismatch between MOODand C++.
