Established in 1992, the International Office is responsible for the numerous international links and activities at the Alps-Adriatic University Klagenfurt under the direction of the Vice-Rector for International Relations. Its responsibilities include coordinating research work carried out by university staff with foreign colleagues as well as dealing with various grants available to students at the university who have performed well in their studies.

JOINT-STUDY program with universities in the USA, Australia, Ethiopia and Senegal are among the most attractive for students wishing to study abroad.

The mobility programme with universities in the European Union began in 1992 and since 1995 the Alps-Adriatic University Klagenfurt has been involved in SOCRATES/ERASMUS activities.

In cooperation with the coordinators and the Klagenfurt branch of ÖAD (Austrian Academic Exchange Service), the International Office deals with all EU activities at an administrative level and looks after international students, for example, by reserving accommodation, arranging free attendance at German courses and providing a counselling service.

Students from Klagenfurt who meet the requirements and are interested in obtaining additional qualifications by spending one or two semesters abroad can get detailed advice from the International Office on the wide range of grants provided by the university itself, such as subsidies for the cost of living abroad (one or two semesters), grants for summer language courses (3-8 weeks), short-term academic work (one to several months) for diploma, doctoral and habilitation theses.

In addition, applications for all grants offered by the ÖAD can be handed in to the International Office. The wide range of international contacts and the fact that students form Klagenfurt have a good chance of obtaining a place at a university abroad create optimum conditions for students at the University of Klagenfurt.
